The bank is the affiliated company and 100% subsidiary of Citibank Overseas Investment Corporation (COIC), which is 100% owned by Citibank, N. A. in New York. The primary holding company is Citigroup, a group which is based in the United States and provides financial services through its presence in more than 100 countries around the world. The total share capital of Citigroup on December 31, 2001, was CZK 81.2 billion.
Citibank a.s. has been present in the Czech Republic since the year 1991. In the initial years, the bank focused primarily on the rendition of financial services to multi-national corporations, large Czech companies and financial institutions. It achieved a leading position in several product segments, such as treasury, cash management, custody and loan products. Citibank, for example, managed up until then the largest transaction in Central and Eastern Europe, a syndicated loan in the amount of USD 850 million for SPT Telecom. Another important transactions were syndicated loans of CZK 6 billion to the company Pilsner Urquell and CZK 5.25 billion to the company Bohemia Crystalex Trading a.s.
CitiBusiness, a division dedicated to serve the needs of Small and Medium-sized Enterprise segment (SME), was launched in 1999. The success of this division was verified by the fact that in the year 2001, CitiBusiness Czech Republic was the fastest growing SME business in the entire global Citibank network.
In the year 2001, Citibank began to offer consumer banking services. Thanks to Citibank’s extensive global experience in this area, the company is able to offer a complete selection of products, such as debit and credit cards, personal loans, deposits, mutual funds or the CitiGold private banking services for VIP clients.
